BIOGRAPHY
Alex Calinescu was born in Cambridge, England in 1967. She moved to London in 1986 to study painting at the City and Guilds of London Art School. (1986-1989). On completion of her degree she was offered a place on the three year Painting Postgraduate course at the Royal Academy of Art, London (1989-92). Following her time at the RA, Calinescu remained in London working full time as an artist. In 2006, on her return from three months as Artist in Residence at the Josef and Anni Albers Foundation in Connecticut, she had the opportunity to take over Sean Scully’s former studio in Deptford London where she has continued to work until now. Having longed to live and work by the sea for some decades, Calinescu has recently purchased an old school in Margate and will be relocating her studio there later this year.
